sentix Politics barometer

The sentix Politics Barometer provides investors with an assessment of important political topics. For this purpose, we ask investors on a monthly basis how they assess certain policy areas in terms of their medium-term impact on the stock market. Investors rate the respective policy area on a five-point scale from ++ to --.

The list of policy areas may vary, as some policy influences are not permanent. Currently, the following policy fields are queried;

  • Brexit (BX)
  • Corona politics (CO)
  • Upcoming elections (EL)
  • Eurozone developments (EU)
  • Geopolitics (GP)

The sub-index "Trump (TR)" was collected until Janaur 2021.

An overall index is calculated from the data of the sub-indices as an arithmetic mean of the queried policy fields.

How to use the indicator

The main purpose of the policy barometer is to identify influences from the political sector on the financial markets. The data does not reflect any political convictions of the market participants surveyed, but only assesses their presumed influence on the stock market development.

Indicator construction

The participants' assessments of a policy field are determined from ++ (rated +2) to -- (rated -2). The arithmetic mean is calculated from the data and multiplied by 0.5. The result represents a sub-index. The calculation is carried out separately for private and institutional investors. The "Headline Index" represents the average of the two sub-indices of the investor groups.

The overall index is calculated from the arithmetic mean of the sub-indices actively queried in each case.
